The Gastrointestinal and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgical service of the Department of Surgical Oncology of the Tata Memorial Centre has witnessed a number of concepts and protocols for pre-operative work-up of patients for major surgery , has become increasingly demanding and complex. Ever since the introduction of the MCh super specialty program, the number of senior residents has dramatically increased in recent times. They are expected to play both an exciting and a challenging role during their rotation in this service. This book has been written with an aim to help them get familiarized with the working of this service. It is also hoped that this handbook will be a valuable asset to them.
